Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend of Service!

Please join us and thousands of other volunteers for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend of Service!  The Weekend of Service is sponsored by HandsOn Greater DC Cares and honors Dr. King’s legacy of service! This year the Weekend of Service will have a special focus on supporting youth, veterans, and education.

Maxwell volunteers will gather at the Excel Academy on January 19 to help set up and organize the library, engage an all-girls class for reading and discussion, and assist with organizing an on-site food pantry that serves the families of the students. Please click here to RSVP.

Arlington National Cemetery Wreath Dedication, 12/15/12

If you want to be a part of a heart-warming dedication and remembrance ceremony, this is your chance.  On Saturday, December 15, 2012, for the 21st consecutive year, holiday wreaths will be placed on graves at Arlington National Cemetery.  Volunteers are needed to assist with distributing the wreaths and some minor beautification projects around the cemetery.

This is not a team event, so there is no official registration process and no guarantee that we will be working on a project together.  We will, however, designate a location to meet one another in advance.  If you’re interested in participating, please sign up.

Maxwell Students at The Kenyan Embassy in DC

On November 15 2012, Ryan William’s class visited the Kenyan Embassy in Washington DC. The students interacted with embassy officials and got to learn more about the upcoming elections, Kenya’s new Constitution and Kenya’s role in promoting peace in the East Africa region. The trip was facilitated by Maxwell Alumni Ms. Sheila Muthemba who hails from Kenya.
