Maxwellians – Volunteer with nearly 10,000 other HandsOn Greater DC Cares Volunteers

On Saturday, April 21, 2012, Maxwell DC alumni will be volunteering along with nearly 10,000 other HandsOn Greater DC Cares volunteers as a part of the Washington region’s largest day of volunteer service — Servathon!

This year we’ll be helping to beatify Fort Mahan Park!  Volunteers will clean up and revitalize this important urban & historic park by weeding and mulching around its many trees and plants.  If this sounds like something that you’re interested in, I hope that you’ll join us!

Please support us in our commitment to Servathon by either donating to or joining the Maxwell DC Alumni Association team! To join our team, select “Join a Team” and choose “Maxwell DC Alumni Association” from the drop down menu while registering.

There are perks for volunteering!  Immediately after the project, we’ll join thousands of Servathon volunteers wearing their free event t-shirt at the official Servathon afterparty, featuring great specials on food and beverages that will last until 6:00 p.m.

There is a registration fee for Servathon, which surprises some people. But like a walk-a-thon or marathon, the registration fee helps Greater DC Cares cover basic costs—like ladders, paint, brushes, shovels, gloves, garbage bags, and everything else that makes service possible.  Servathon doesn’t charge its nonprofit and school partners for these supplies, so your $25 helps make this incredible day of service possible.  AND you get snacks and water at your project, your event t-shirt, and an invitation to our after party.

Mentor a Maxwellian! – Volunteer to Network with Current Students Saturday February 25

Volunteer to Mentor a Maxwellian at this year’s student networking trip!

On behalf of MAXPAC, IRSA and the 2011-2012 graduate students of the Maxwell School of Citizenship, we would like to invite you to participate in a networking event for the annual Maxwell School DC Trip on Saturday, February 25 at the Greenberg House.

This year, our Saturday event consists of informal, sector-specific discussion sessions. Alumni are encouraged to attend any sessions that they desire. The sessions will provide opportunities for alumni to introduce themselves and for students to learn more about the sector and its job outlook.

Alumni! House a Maxwellian for the Annual Student Networking Trip – Feb. 22-26

Volunteer to host a current Maxwell student for their upcoming networking trip! See their message below:

As you have surely heard, the current class of Maxwell students is having its annual DC Networking Event Feb 23-25.  It will be a great opportunity for current students and alumni to connect, and it will give our soon-to-be job hunters insight into the DC job market.

However, to make our trip successful, we need your help!

Could we stay with you?

While many students in our class have DC area connections, over 60 students still need housing while in DC.  So far, five generous alumni have opened their homes to our class, but we have a long way to go!  Our students are dedicated to being considerate, tidy guests that will make every effort to work around your schedule.  Whether you have an extra room, open couch, or even floorspace for a blow-up mattress, our students would greatly appreciate your assistance keeping this trip affordable.  Most students will arrive Wednesday night and depart on Saturday, but some will arrive on Thursday or depart Sunday.  If you are able to host a student, please contact Stacy Lemery: srlemery@syr.edu or 847-804-3866.

Join the Maxwell DC Alumni Association for our Monthly Meeting – Tuesday December 6th at 6:00pm

The Maxwell DC Alumni Association will be meeting at 6:00pm on Tuesday, December 6th at the Starbucks on the corner of 7th and E St., NW near Gallery Place.

We will be discussing upcoming social events, community service, a speaker series and the Maxwell student networking trip.

Afterwards we will be joining the Syracuse Alumni Club of Washington, D.C. for their annual holiday party! This will take place at Clyde’s of Gallery Place at 707 7th St., NW. There will be hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a silent auction – please purchase tickets in advance.
